Privacy policy

The Institute of Archaeology, Iceland (Fornleifastofnun Íslands), reg. no. 680695-2969, Bræðraborgarstígur 9, 101 Reykjavík, is responsible for the personal data processed on fornleif.is. This page explains what we collect, why, and what your rights are. Processing follows Icelandic Act no. 90/2018 on data protection and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Enquiries

When you send an enquiry through the site, we receive your name, email address, phone number if you give one, the topic and your message. It reaches the office by email and is not stored on the website itself. We use it only to reply to you and keep it no longer than needed.

Shop orders

When you order, we receive your name, email address, phone number, postal address if the order is posted, any note, and what you ordered. The order reaches the office by email and you get a confirmation at your email address. We use this to process the order and keep it as long as Icelandic accounting law requires.

Card payments are made on Teya's secure payment page. Card details never reach the Institute; we only receive confirmation of the payment.

Analytics

If you allow it, we use Google Analytics to see how the site is used, for example which pages are visited and which reports are downloaded. Google Analytics records pages, time, device and browser type, where the visit came from and country or city, but does not store IP addresses. The data is kept for 14 months and is not used for advertising.

Google Ireland Ltd. processes the data on our behalf. It may be transferred to the United States; Google participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Nothing is sent to Google unless you click Allow. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookies link at the bottom of every page.

Cookies and browser storage

• fornleif-consent: remembers your analytics choice for 12 months.
• fornleif-cart: keeps your shopping cart in your browser.
• _ga and _ga_556QDD6X12: Google Analytics cookies, only if you allow analytics. They last up to 2 years and are removed if you decline later.

Processors

The site is hosted by Scaleway in France, which also sends the site's email. The site's content and images come from Sanity. The office uses Google Workspace for email. Teya handles card payments. We never sell personal data.

Your rights

You have the right to know what data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to receive a copy. You can always withdraw your consent. Write to fsi@fornleif.is or call +354 551 1033.
