On Wednesday 7 October, Gavin Lucas gives a lecture on the Skálholt excavations at the Historiska museet in Stockholm.

The three volumes on the Skálholt excavations

The Skálholt research is travelling: next Wednesday, 7 October, Gavin Lucas gives a lecture on the excavations at the Historiska museet in Stockholm.

The lecture is titled Friends in High Places: Excavations at a Bishop’s Residence in Iceland. Gavin will discuss what archaeology can tell us about power, daily life and international connections in Iceland in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The lecture can be followed both at the museum in Stockholm and on a live stream. More about the lecture and tickets on the Historiska museet website.

For anyone interested in archaeology, the history of Skálholt or Icelandic history, we would also like to mention that the third and final volume in the series on the Skálholt excavations has just been published: Skálholt: Excavations of a Bishop’s Residence and School c. 1650–1790. Volume 3: The Ecofacts and Synthesis, by Gavin Lucas and Mjöll Snæsdóttir.

The book is now available at a special launch price in the Institute’s online shop.
